In 2025, Y+Project issued an open call to artists based in Chengdu and Chongqing, selecting three artists or collectives to realize solo exhibition proposals, which will be presented in succession at A4 Art Museum.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition revolves around a theoretical framework that Chu has gradually developed since 2019, centered on the core concepts of\u00a0\u201crepresentation\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cdeviation\u201d, with the aim of reconstructing both the generative mechanism of painting and its cognitive structure. Chu defines\u00a0representation\u00a0as the process in which a painter organizes the relationships between color and line to simulate visible objects or invisible ideas\u2014in other words, a mechanism for reproducing visual experience.\u00a0Deviation, by contrast, refers to the systemic differences that naturally emerge during representation due to the artist\u2019s individual modes of observation, bodily operation, and cognitive structure. These differences are not flaws to be corrected, but rather irreplaceable traces of subjectivity\u2014the way in which the \u201cpainter\u201d exists within the painting. In Chu\u2019s view, the meaning of painting lies not in suppressing or correcting such deviations in pursuit of representational accuracy, but in releasing them. As a non-image-based, non-programmed, and non-standardized generative mechanism, deviation enables painting to transcend the instrumental logic of representation and to open a path of escape from purely technical control.
