Series of Lectures on the Construction and Methodology of Documentation Libraries – Exploring Chengdu’s Contemporary Art Through the Asian Art Documentation Archive

  • Lecturer:
    Weng Zijian

Introduction

Over the past two decades, the Asian Art Documentation Archive (AAA) has established a rich and unique archive of contemporary Chinese art materials, which has been utilized by researchers and academic institutions around the world. AAA places particular emphasis on topics overlooked by mainstream discussions, such as the artistic diversity fostered by regional cultures. This lecture will take Chengdu’s contemporary art as an example to introduce the research resources and utilization methods of the Asian Art Documentation Archive. It will also discuss issues related to regionalized art history, such as the countereffects of globalization on art history, the relativity of local boundaries, and how to respond to the fragmentation of values.
