Birdie Logs: Luxelakes Birdwatching & Alcohol Ink Workshop

  • Time
    28 June 2025, 08.30–12.00
  • Location
    Green Field Park
  • Artist
    HU Qindi

Introduction

Capture every encounter with a bird just as one would record an entry in a diary. Document the weather and time of day, the habitat in which it appeared, its plumage and characteristics, and its behaviour—noting its specific actions at that precise moment.
As we observe a bird repeatedly, we gradually uncover a broader, more profound connection: beyond deepening our comprehension of these creatures, it serves as a means to understand ourselves and the environment we inhabit.
Following the morning birdwatching session, we will return to the A4 Art Museum to translate our observations through drawing and transcription. Utilising an alcohol duplicator (Hectograph), we will preserve these moments on paper. Through the exchange and sharing of our work, we will collectively compile a volume of that day’s ‘Luxelakes Birdie Log Archives’.

  • Artist Profile

    HU Qindi
Based in Hangzhou, HU Qindi is an artist skilled in documenting everyday landscapes across a variety of media, including paper, wood, copperplates, photographic paper, and thread. Her practice has consistently been intertwined with the cities she inhabits, utilising walking as a narrative thread to record the trees, flora, and fauna encountered in daily life.
Since birdwatching became an integral part of her life, avian themes have permeated her creative practice. Her geographical records have expanded in tandem with the presence of various birds in different locales. Much like an audio recorder, binoculars have become an extension of her sight and hearing, capturing the essence of her encounters with these ‘other’ beings. Through sketching, printmaking, and installations, she gives form to the shapes, silhouettes, sounds, and habitats of the birds she observes.
